We did it! We shot a short film. It was a really long day, and a lot of moving parts to wrangle, but we actually did it. And the footage is pretty much all properly exposed, in focus, and with decent sound. So that's a win. And I've been editing away, when I can get a chance, for the past couple of weeks. It's been nice to do some editing, step away for a bit, and then come back to it. Better than the all-in 48 Hour Film competitions that we've done. With such a fast turn-around, you don't have much time to get any perspective on it before you have to turn it in. But we're already seeing some things we'd do differently next time. (Next time, listen to me. We're not even done with this one and I'm already thinking about another) Everything, from the number of people in the cast, to the lighting and shooting, to how we do the sound. Everything is on the table for improvement, if there is a next time. And I hope there will be. It really was a blast. And it's something that I'm always thinking about, and can't wait to to get back to each day. Not that I can work on it every day. But I'm always trying to. Which says to me that it's something that I want to do, that I look forward to doing. So why not do more? If you enjoy it, why not?
I'm thinking about doing some Youtube "making-of" videos, talking about the process and challenges. Don't know if anyone would be interested. but it might fun for me to go back and evaluate the process. The current version of the film is off to the composer now. We'll see what he can do with it. And I'm working on the sound and color grading. It's about 9 minutes long right now. That might change a bit, there are a few things I still want to tweak. But yeah, we did it. We shot a little movie. Our goal is to enter it into the Milwaukee Film Festival by January 17th. Not that we will win anything, but if it could be shown on a big screen, along with other local films, that would be fun to invite everyone to. And then we start thinking about the next one. ;)
